The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) is master database of death records produced by the Social Security Administration. Ordering a computerized copy or a photocopy of the deceased can be obtained under the Freedom on Information Act on theSocial Security Administrationwebsite. To place the order the name of the deceased (maiden name if the deceased is the wife or female relative), the birth date or the Social Security number must be known. A good database that is kept up to date is the one run by Ancestry.com that was formally known as the The Generations Network.
