First Steps
Editing GeneaWiki pages is easy. Simply click on the "Edit" tab at the top of a GeneaWiki page. You just need to register for free to do this.
What is GeneaWiki?
GeneaWiki is a free encyclopedia of genealogy, written by the people who use it. Editing and creating pages is very easy and anyone is invited to collaborate! Changes are immediately visible to every other reader.
How does it work?
Many people are constantly improving GeneaWiki, making many changes per day.
All of these changes are recorded in article histories and recent changes. All edits can be reversed, fixed or improved later.
How to contribute?
We encourage users to start contributing now and to be bold when updating pages!
GeneaWiki will develop faster if everybody helps to fix problems, correct grammar, add facts, etc. Of course, others may edit what you write. Assume that editors' edits and comments are made in good faith and help make GeneaWiki a better encyclopedia.
Create an account
You need to register for free to contribute to GeneaWiki. When creating an account, you will have your own user page where you can write a bit about yourself, and a user talk page which you can use to communicate with other users, you will be able to keep track of changes to pages you are interested in using a watchlist, and other users will be able to recognise you by your username when you make changes to pages. Create an account or log in to GeneaWiki.
