Description

EZITREE is a computer program that has been developed in Australia over the past 20 years for use by family historians who want their computer to store more than just the basic information about their family.

First and foremost, EZITREE is an event-based computer system that enables the accurate recording and retrieval of information in the life of a person. You may record births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials, as well as any other event in the life of a person, including education, immigration, convict, housing and land records. From this information, you can create a large variety of family charts and lists that may be viewed on screen, printed, or stored in a separate file.

Features

  • EZITREE can store up to 99,999,999 individuals in each data file and there is no limit to the number of data files you may have, other than the capacity of your hardware. For each individual you may have up to 999 different types of events most of which may be recorded multiple times. Any number of marriages may be recorded for each person with no limit to the number of children per marriage.
  • EZITREE stores the First and Last Names of each individual in separate fields and generally manages the capitalisation of words for you. EZITREE also provides the facility to store different names for each event of a person such as married women’s names, legal name changes and name variations in source records. You may also select a name as the ‘Display’ name that will be used on all Charts and Reports in place of the default birth name.
  • Places are stored in EZITREE as three components - Place name, State code and Country code. The Place name field can contain the city or town name together with additional information such as a church name. The State and Country Codes are based on a standard system called Chapman Codes for consistency and these can be entered directly or from a list supplied with EZITREE. When displayed, the full name of the State and Country will generally be shown beside the codes for easy reference.
  • In EZITREE, dates are entered separately as day, month and year so that partial dates may be stored. Incomplete or approximate dates may be further identified with codes to indicate their type, such as ‘C’ (circa) or ‘A’ (about). In addition, an option exists to fill the missing portion of dates with spaces, dashes, question marks or asterisks.
  • For each event in the life of an individual, EZITREE can also store the Marital Status, Occupation, Religion, Cause of Death, Residence, Notes, Witnesses and Sources. A single input window is used to enter data once an event has been selected for entry or update. Records of new individuals are automatically allocated a new record number together with gender coding (which is based on a large file of first names.) The entry of a full date will cause the day of week to be displayed as well as the age of the individual if the birth date is present. Several lookup windows are also available to assist you select items that require a code such as State or Country.
  • EZITREE provides the facility for you to store the current home and postal addresses of an individual together with their telephone number. This address may be useful when you are corresponding with other members of your family, or if you are organising a family reunion. You may also record the address of an individual at an event by using the Residence field.
  • EZITREE produces the three main types of genealogical charts, Ancestors, Descendants and Family Group and these have many variations and options available. The Ancestors Chart may be created as Horizontal (or Birth Brief), Vertical, Circular, Narrative, Listing, 6 generations with images, 7 and 8 generations. The Descendants Chart may be created as Tabular, Narrative, Biographical, Line of Descent or Drop Line. The Family Group Charts may be displayed with a single marriage or all marriages. EZITREE also has a special type of chart called an Event Chronology Chart. This chart produces a biographical listing in chronological order of all the events in the life of an individual or effecting that individual, such as the birth and marriage of parents and children. You may also include events that have taken place in world history.
  • All charts and lists are previewed on the screen from where they may be printed or output to one of several file formats including PDF, Microsoft Word DOC, RTF or HTML.
  • In EZITREE, there are many options for output of different lists of information - Individuals, Statistics, Duplicates, Partial Data and Unused Record Numbers. Individual lists may be in Alphabetical or Numerical (Record Number) order, or you may choose your own order. You may also select what data and which subset of records are to be displayed.
